Letter from Editor - Reflections on the Year 2017

December 16, 2017

With 2017 winding down, as usual we like to sit back and evaluate what has happened to BMO Cyber Pensioners over the past 12 months.

The recent re-design of the website itself was the most visible change. The development was led by our existing Webmasters together with Sandy Shim and Roy Brown who joined the team this year. We hope you are enjoying the results of their labours.

Our Registration team also had a very busy year with membership well surpassing 2800 and 800 friends on Facebook. John Jackson joined our Registrar team this year. The increase in our membership is especially gratifying as we head towards the next major milestone of 3000. By promoting Cyber Pensioners through speeches and hand-outs organizers at pensioner luncheons have become a major contributor to the growth in our membership. This year in particular, as I write this in early December, over the last 62 days we have registered more than 77 new members. Similarly many join through word of mouth and we appreciate the efforts of those who recommend us to their fellow retirees.

From the Editor - Celebrating BMO's Bicentennial

November 19, 2017

On October 29, the Bank held an event in Montreal where, for the first time ever, Matt Barrett, Tony Comper, Bill Downe and Darryl White – the four living CEOs – and David Galloway and Robert Prichard, (who, along with Matt and Tony, are the four living Chairmen of the Board), were all together in the same place, at the same time.

They were in Montreal for a Board dinner in Bill Downe's honour, and to unveil a new tablet in the lobby of Montreal Main with the names of the 66 men and women who led the bank in its second hundred years. I personally found it fascinating to recall how many names on the tablet were of people I knew, worked for, or had been in contact with over the years.

(Photos on the top and the right by Christian Fleury)

A video, showing the making of this impressive tablet is also available below.

Our thanks go to BMO Corporate Communications for making this material available to us. As is always the case, publication or reproduction of this material may only proceed with the permission of the Bank of Montreal.
