News Update

A bunch of retired credit guys

November 9, 2018

Every few months a few retired credit guys in the Oakville area get together for some good conversation and supper.  It’s great to hear how everyone is doing and all their travels to exotic places. A lot of these faces might not be familiar as we spent more time on the phone than talking in person so I will give names starting from the left side: Dave Lowe, Ron Patterson, Brendan Saunders, Bill Matthews, Jack Kearns, Dave Lusby, John Luhovy, John Cox, Frank Granger.

Submitted by Ron Patterson.

New Regional Representative for Vancouver Island

October 30, 2018

Joan Firkins is our new regional representative for Vancouver Island taking over from Donna Whitford. Welcome Joan and thanks to Donna! Below is a short biography of Joan.

Joined BMO in 1961 at the age of 17 and worked 40 years to the day, retiring August 28, 2001. Started at Broadway and Yew, then went to Main branch in Port Coquitlam and was later transferred as Manager to Westwood Mall branch in Port Coquitlam. Transferred as Manager to Shelbourne & Pear branch in Victoria in 1978, then to University of Victoria branch, James Bay branch (twice), Fort & Bank branch and finally as a Financial Services Manager, Main Office, Victoria. After retiring, I took up lawn bowling and now am a competitive lawn bowler throughout the summers. I am also very involved in Rotary and have served at all levels (club, District and Zone) and was the first woman District Governor in our District in 2005-06. I have now been a member for 26 years and am passionate about the global goal of Rotary to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. For a link to a local story about Joan, CLICK HERE .

Lower Mainland (BC) Pensioners Lunch

October 27, 2018

On October 23rd thirty five pensioners met for lunch at the Clayton Public House in Cloverdale.  It was great to see so many faces that we don’t normally see at the quarterly lunches at the Arbutus Club.  Plans are to continue to organize these “ad hoc” lunches in an effort to bring out more of the lower mainland group.  To stay informed about future plans, consider joining BOMPA (Bank of Montreal Pensioners Association).  To read the rest, CLICK HERE

BC Lower Mainland/Vancouver Island Credit Lunch (otherwise known as the “Old Guys Semi-Annual Lunch)

October 27, 2018

For a few years, a group of former commercial lenders has been meeting alternatively in Ladner and Sidney, BC for lunch.  Twice a year, Spring and Fall, once in each location. On Oct 25th we met in Sidney – four Lower Mainlanders and one from Salt Spring Island were picked up at the Swartz Bay Ferry terminal and whisked to a gathering of Vancouver Islanders.  As the pictures indicate, we had a very pleasant time and renewed old acquaintances, solved current political and economic quandaries and mapped a clear path for our beloved former employer to regain and/or maintain top dog status in the financial world.  To read the rest, CLICK HERE

Thanks Earl Hansford for sharing.
